The Complete Guide to Becoming a CPA
Contents
Becoming a CPA was the best decision I have ever made. All through college, my professors told me that the achieving certified public accountant status was the pinnacle of our profession and everyone show work toward it. Needless to say, they were right.
The years in college, months of studying to pass the exam, and the costs associated with both were completely worth it! I have had so many opportunities and job offers come my way just because I was licensed. Monetary and careers gains are only part of the benefits though. I have to admit; it was pretty awesome signing my first official document as a CPA!
Since CPAs are valued and desired around the world, I’ve also been able to relocate where I want to. Every major city in the world needs qualified CPAs. Once you get your license, you can literally pick where you want to live and work. Not to mention, you can always start your own firm.
But before you can live the life of a CPA, you’ve gotta pass the CPA exam. Passing the exam can be a challenge for anyone, especially if you aren’t focusing on the right stuff. I’m going to break down the process of how to pass the exam step by step from application to receiving your license in the mail, so you can focus on what’s important.
Come on. What are you waiting for? Let’s get started! 🙂
1. Find out Your State’s CPA Requirements
Before you can even think about applying for the exam, you will have to figure out what your state’s qualifications are. Unfortunately, every state’s criteria for candidates is slightly different. This means just because you are ok to sit one state doesn’t mean you are eligible in another.
You will want to look at and meet the rules for the state that you plan on working in the future. I have summarized all of the CPA exam requirements by state. Check out your state!
2. Pick a CPA Study Guide
Finding the right review course can mean the difference between passing the exam the first time and retaking every section a few times. We are talking about months and months of studying that could be wasted if you aren’t using a review course that fits your lifestyle and learning style. Obviously, your budget has to be considered as well.
I have been through every single study guide on the market and know all of the pros and cons of each. Read my CPA review course reviews and find out what course will work the best for you.
It’s all about passing the exam the first time. Make sure you are prepared, so you can go to work and say I’m one of the cool guys who passed the first time! 🙂
